Osteopathy is categorised as ‘primary care’ so you do not need to see your GP before treatment. Through a process of history taking and examination including orthopaedic or clinic tests where necessary, we are able to diagnose musculoskeletal problems with the body. The aim is also to establish how the injury has occurred which may be for example due to the dysfunction of a different part of the body, past injuries or your sport or profession. Often it is a combination of all of these. Treatment includes hands on treatment such as massage, articulations, manipulations (where the joints can make a ‘popping’ sound, stretches. Advise is also given on exercises and changes to your workstation or activities which will aid a swift recovery and prevent the injury returning.
Osteopaths undertake a 4 or 5 year degree course and safety is our primary consideration. If we feel that your presenting symptoms are not appropriate for treatment we will refer you to a doctor, or advise you on the best course of action.
Osteopathy is effective on all ages and for many conditions such as back ache, sciatica, muscle stiffness, arthritis, referred and nerve pain and hip pain. If you are not sure if Osteopathy is appropriate for you, please contact David and he will be happy to discuss your condition.
